1.    General statements. Goals and objectives of the competition.

1.1. The given Regulation of the V International Composer Competition “THE TIME OF THE GUITAR” (hereinafter referred to as “Regulation”) determines the general conditions for the organization and holding of the V International Composer Competition “THE TIME OF THE GUITAR” (hereinafter referred to as “Competition").

1.2. The Competition conduction is aimed at achieving the following goals and objectives:
          -  identifying and supporting young talented academic composers who write for classic guitar;
- popularization, keeping and improvement of the professional traditions of the Russian guitar performing art school;
- identification and support of the most gifted and professionally trained performers on a classic guitar;
- tightening of interstate creative connections among composers, tutors and performers on a classic guitar;
- assistance in realization the creative potential of students and tutors of the Russian Federation.

2.    Dates and place of the competition-festival:
01.02.2024-30.04.2024 – the competition is held online. Application deadline – 15.04.2024

3. Organizational structure of the competition-festival

3.1. The following structures to carry out activities aimed at solving the problems of the Competition are created:
•    The Organization committee organizes and holds the competition, provides organizational support for the Competition-festival, and exercises other powers provided by the Regulations.
•    The Competition Jury (hereinafter referred to as the “Jury”) –  listens to the participants of the competition-festival, determines the best works and the best performers, ensures equality and respect for the rights of all participants of the competition-festival, exercises other powers stipulated by the Regulation.

3.2. The Organization committee consists of the Organizers of the competition-festival: The Moscow International Association of Guitar Art.

3.3. The Organization committee establishes the dates of the Competition, organizes events within the framework of the Competition, approves the Jury membership, provides information support for the Competition, involves partners and other organizations to solve organizational, financial and technical issues related to the organization and holding of the Competition and also carries out other actions stipulated by the Regulation.

3.4. The Organization committee possesses the exclusive right to photo-, audio- and video materials of the events of the Competition, as well as to record, distribute and broadcast them in the mass media to cover and popularize the Competition. The transfer (alienation) of the exclusive right to the materials specified in this clause of the Regulation to the Organization committee is a mandatory condition for allowing the Organization Committee to allow third parties to take photographs or videos, to record the events of the Competition, and without remuneration to the authors or other rightholders of such materials (free of charge). The subsequent use of these materials is carried out by the Organizing Committee, indicating the authorship.

3.5. The Jury membership is formed and approved by the Organization committee from among well-known Russian and foreign composers and performers on classical guitar, representing various artistic trends of contemporary academic music.

3.6. The jury evaluates the musical works participating in the competition and determines the winners and prize-winners of the Competition. The decisions of the Jury are final and not subject to revision. 


4. Conditions and program requirements of the Competition-festival:
-  Composers no age limit can take part in the competition;
- Competition is held in the following nominations: "Compositions for guitar solo", "Compositions for guitar ensembles", "Composition for children", "Composition for children ensemble".

4.1. " Compositions for guitar solo " nomination
A single-part or multi-section composition for guitar

“Juniors” category – up to 18 (inclusive)
“Students of music colleges” category 
“Professionals” category – no age limit
Maximal duration – 10 min. 

4.2. " Compositions for 7-string guitar solo " nomination
A single-part or multi-section composition for 7-string guitar

“Juniors” category – up to 18 (inclusive)
“Students of music colleges” category 
“Professionals” category – no age limit
Maximal duration – 10 min. 

4.3. " Compositions for guitar in ensembles " nomination
A one-part or multi-section composition for guitar and other instruments. Compositions for an ensemble with several guitars (duet, trio, quartet, etc.) are also allowed.

“Juniors” category – up to 18 (inclusive)
“Students of music colleges” category 
“Professionals” category – no age limit

4.4. Nomination "Composition for children" 
A one-part or multi - section composition for guitar solo, taking into account the specifics and technical level of guitar performance by students of children's music schools. This nomination is intended to replenish the methodological repertoire for the guitar.
“Students of music colleges” category 
“Professionals” category – no age limit

4.5. Nomination "Composition for children ensemble" 
A one-part or multi-section composition for guitar and other instruments for children. Compositions for an ensemble with several guitars (duet, trio, quartet, etc.) are also allowed. 

“Students of music colleges” category 
“Professionals” category – no age limit


Scores shall be sent to competition@mmagi.ru by April 15th, 2024.

In the score, the pseudonym is indicated instead of the author’s last name.
The Organization committee of the Competition does not inform the members of the Jury on the names of the authors of submitted scores.
The scores are accepted in pdf format, typed in computer programs or written in legible handwriting.
A file with audio or video recording of the performance of the composition (music work), or a link to the file with the recording of the performance of the composition on the Internet should be attached to the score. You can use the midi file to record and provide the Organization committee with the performance of the composition.
The period of limitation of music works declared for participation in the Competition-festival shall not exceed 3 (three) years.
Works (scores) that do not meet these requirements for music works are not allowed to participate in the Competition.
From the submitted scores the Jury determines the winners and diploma winners of the Competition.

4.5 Authors or other copyright holders of musical works admitted to participate in the Competitive audition of the Competition give the Organization committee the right to use musical works participating in the Competitive audition of the Competition on the basis of a simple (non-exclusive) license throughout the world for 10 (ten ) years, starting from April 15th, 2024, in the following ways: reproduction on any media and in any form without limitation of the number of items / copies (circulation), distribution, publication rendition, public demonstration, import, broadcasting, posting by cable, retransmission, translation or other processing, making public, with the right to grant the right to use these musical works to other people (sublicensees) without the prior consent of the authors or other copyright holders of such music works (the right to conclude sub-license agreements), as well as the right to publish a music work. The simple (non-exclusive) license specified in this clause of the Regulations is granted to the Organizing committee free of charge.

4.6. The provision of a simple (non-exclusive) license to the Organizing committee provided for by this clause of the Regulations is a mandatory condition for the admission of musical works to participate in the Competition.

4.7. Each Participant of the Competition guarantees and provides independently on his own account the observance of the copyright of authors and other copyright holders of the music works presented by the Participant for participation in the Competition and / or performed by the Participant as part of the Competition. Third parties have claims to the Organizing committee of the Competition related to the use of musical works in the framework of the Competition, the corresponding Participant of the Competition is obliged to settle such claims and claims on their own and at their own expense, without involving the Organization committee of the Competition.


5. The procedure and registration of participants of the Competition-festival

5.1. Each Participant of the Competition is subject to registration by the Organization committee. The Participant is considered to be registered for participation in the Competition from the date the Participant receives address the confirmation of the Organization committee for registration of the Participant of the Competition to his e-mail

5.2. The participants of the Competition for participation are provided to the Organizing committee the following materials and information in electronic form:
•    An application with a Participant’s application form indicating personal data, a short autobiography and an performed program, the form of which is posted on the internet on the Contest-festival website: http://mmagi.ru, as well as a copy of birth certificate
•    The score of the music composition of the Participant in the “Composers” nomination in full PDF format, on the title page of which the genre, tittle, motto (codename) of the Participant/ musical work should be indicated.
•    At the request of the Participant, an audio file with the recording of the performance of a music work is provided (possible formats are mp3, wav, midi).
The sending by the Participant of the Competition to the Organization Committee of the questionnaire and other materials provided for by this clause of the Regulations confirms the full and unconditional consent of the Applicant with the terms of the Regulations, and also guarantees that the Participant of the Competition fulfills all the conditions of these Regulations.

5.3. The registration fee for participation in the Competition is 3000 (three thousand) rubles for one composition for each category. If one participant sends several compositions, a registration fee of 2000 (two thousand) rubles is paid for each subsequent composition, starting with the second.

The registration fee for members of the Moscow International Association of the Guitar Art is 2100 (two thousand one hundred) rubles for one composition and 1400 (one thousand four hundred) for each subsequent composition for each category.

Information about the payment of the registration fee for participation in the Competition (payment details) is published on the website: www.mmagi.ru. In case of refusal to participate in the Competition, the registration fee is not refundable.

5.4. The application for participation in the Competition and supporting documents for payment of the registration fee must be sent by 23:59.  April 15, 2024 by filling out the corresponding online application form for the Competition posted on the website www.mmagi.ru.

5.5. The order of performances of the Participants is determined by the Organization committee of the Competition. 


6. Prize fund of the Competition-Festival
Works of the contest winners will be published by the Edition «Muzyka»
The works that received the highest rating of the jury will be included in the mandatory program of the V International Guitar Competition and Festival "The Time of the Guitar" in November 2024 in Moscow.
All winners and diploma holders of the competition are awarded diplomas of the winner/diploma holder.


7. Jury of the Competition:

Vladislav AGAFONNIKOV (Moscow, Russia) – Chairman of the jury, people's artist of Russia, Professor of the Tchaikovsky Moscow state Conservatory, winner of the Shostakovich prize of the Union of composers of the Russian Federation;

Valery KIKTA (Moscow, Russia) – co-Chairman of the jury, honored artist of Russia and Ukraine, Professor, head of the instrumentation Department of the Tchaikovsky Moscow state Conservatory, winner of the Shostakovich prize of the Union of composers of the Russian Federation;

Harri WESSMAN (Helsinki, Finland) - composer, journalist, music critic, teacher at the J. Sibelius Academy;

Sergey RUDNEV (Tula, Russia) – famous guitarist and composer, holder of the title "National treasure of Russia";

Dmitry BORODAEV (Moscow, Russia) - president of the Moscow International Association of the Guitar Art, associate professor of the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory, guitarist, composer and conductor, member of the Board of the Union of Moscow composers, laureate of the Moscow Government prize.

Alexei SARTAKOV (Novosibirsk, Russia) — guitarist and composer, senior lecturer of the Glinka Novosibirsk State Conservatory, winner of the IV International Composer Competition «The Time of the Guitar» (2023)

8. Final regulations

8.1. This Regulation enters into force on the date of its approval (signing) by the Organization committee.

8.2. This Regulation may be amended and / or supplemented by the decision of the Organization committee.

8.3. The Organization committee reserves the exclusive right at any time:
а) supply and / or amend the Regulation;
b) repeal this Regulation and / or declare it invalid in whole or in part;
c) accept the new version of the Regulation;
d) amend and / or supply the Regulations regarding the name, number of nominations, number of nominees, laureates, winners of the Competition, as well as regarding other conditions of the Competition and related events.

8.4. All changes and additions to the Regulations, as well as the Regulations accepted in the new edition, shall enter into force on the date of their approval by the Organization committee, unless another date of entry into force is expressly indicated and determined by the Organization committee.

8.5. The organizer is not obliged to provide third parties with information and information about the Competition, as well as related organizational measures, with the exception of cases expressly provided for by current legislation.

8.6. All and any requirements of citizens and / or legal entities related to the organization and holding of the Competition or participation in it, and / or arising from these Regulations, as well as their consequences, are considered by the Organization committee, except as expressly provided for by the current legislation of the Russian Federation.

8.7. The Organization committee is exempt from reimbursement of any possible and / or losses incurred by the Participants, any third parties, expenses and / or other sums of money related to the conduct of the Competition events, other than those expressly provided for in these Regulations.

8.8. All disputes and controversies that may arise in connection with the holding of the Competition and its results and / or arising from these Regulations, and / or directly or indirectly related to it, shall be resolved through negotiations.

8.9. The headings in this Regulation are given exclusively for convenience of working with the text of the Regulations and should not be taken into account. Headings to sections, as well as their numeration, are for reference purposes only and do not define, limit or change the meaning, content and interpretation of this Regulation.

8.10. Losses and any other damages incurred by the Organization committee and / or third parties as a result of a violation by the Participant of the Competition of copyright and / or related rights during the Competition are reimbursed by the Participant of the Competition who committed such a violation.

8.11. The given regulation is made in Russian and English. In case of discrepancy between the Russian and English texts of this regulation, the text in Russian will prevail.
